Litmus, FFTs, Firefox 2.0 RC2, Upcoming Events, …
We had a bit of an outage last week. Our beloved Litmus fell over last week as the server it was hosted on had an aneurysm and fell over in its rack. Many thanks to Zach and Coop for getting it back up and running and for posting the results from the previous week’s testday which I’d neglected to post that weekend (and, in fact, couldn’t post anyway because I lacked Coop’s script-running technology – welcome back, Coop!).
What are FFTs? Full-functional tests are a classification of tests that cover as much of a particular feature or application area as possible. They are a superset of BFTs, or basic functional tests which, in turn, are a broader range of tests than the most-basic smoketests: the first level of certification completed to move an app to a wider testing audience.
Typically, when a new build is being prepared for release, we would go through a round of smoketests, then the BFTs and finally throw the book at it with the FFTs. You can view the different and many FFTs in Litmus, either by group or in full (Firefox 2.0 shown).
So, as the Firefox 2.0 RC2 builds are being readied, we’ll be moving through these different testing stages and culminating in another testday this coming Friday where you’re all invited to come out and run some FFTs with us. We’ll be announcing the focus for this week’s testday later in the week as we figure out which areas of the ‘fox need the most attention. For a historical retrospective and a look at what’s coming for RC2, checkout the Firefox:2.0_QA_Activities wiki page.
One other note, tomorrow is bugday. Join Marcia, Tracy and a cast of dozens in their on-going quest to hunt the wild bug in #bugday on irc.mozilla.org. Stay-tuned for the word on testday.
