Startup quirks with Firebug 1.4a10 and Firefox 3.1b2

I noticed a funny problem with Firebug 1.4a10 and Firefox 3.1b2 yesterday which I’ve since seen reported and verified by other users. John Barton confirmed it in his build but says that the trace-enabled version of 1.4a10X works properly. You can get it here: getfirebug.com/releases/firebug/1.4X.

If you’d rather stick with the non-debug version for performance reasons or personal preference, I think I have a work-around that will get you up and running.

1) open Firebug in a separate window via the status icon’s context menu (right click).

2) Inspect button should be active, click on it and inspect some element of your open tab.

3) collapse Firebug back into a frame. When you open it again, all elements should be initialized.

Upcoming alpha/beta release should have this fixed up. JJB checked-in R1559 into the 1.4 branch yesterday. Let us know of any other problems via the google code issues page.

I say without disasters because if I said without problems I’d be lying. It did crash the first 5 times when I tried to open it after installing. This was due to one of my add-ons apparently not being compatible. It was fixed rather easily, however, by just starting up Firefox in safe-mode, and restarting with all the add-ons disabled. Then all I had to do was enable them one by one to find out which one had problems.
