On 11.0a2 (2011-12-30), the Style Editor seems to only load half of the stylesheet. For instance on this page the stylesheet is cut off at line 84. When you make a change, it applies the modified stylesheet and so you lose half of the page’s styles. I’m not sure what are the conditions to reproduce this bug since it appears systematically on some pages, and appeared first on some pages but not the second time I tried.

Amazing! This could replace a lot of copy-pasting from firebug, which isn’t very handy.

How does the prettifier work? I see only the minified code in the orion window

That’s really great!

OTOH, it may be just me, but I’d prefer more speaking names when I’d define such functions as $() and $0 are so confusing, inspect() and inspNode or such may be longer but easier to remember what they are actually standing for (but then I could never get friends with the jQuery shorthand either).

Hi Caspy. I can comment briefly on why we chose Orion over Ace for the included editor. It mostly has to do with both editors’ capabilities with respect to localization and accessibility. Ace’s viewport implementation makes it very difficult (currently) to use in some types of accessibility scenarios. It’s also, probably a lower priority for the Ace developers to make it accessible, whereas the Orion project is intended to be fully accessible.

That said, neither editor is “perfect”. Orion comes with a lot of overhead to maintain browser compatibility and essentially ignores a lot of the features we already have built-in to our Gecko-based editor. We’ll have more to say about how we’re going to address these issues in a future post.

Can you comment on why Orion was chosen over Ace?
I don’t ask this antagonistically at all. I’m not fully familiar with both projects.
I know that Ace has been growing in its capabilities and Mozilla has put some resources into it. (Blue Griffon is also using it.)
One of my concerns is that we may be splitting our energies investing in multiple editor projects.
