Firebug 1.3.4b1

Late last week, a number of users reported some strange behavior with Firebug 1.3.3 and Firefox 3.0.7. Pages with lots of JavaScript files being imported through XmlHttpRequests were freezing with Firebug installed and activated. For those interested in the discovery process, you can view the discussion page on the Firebug discussion group. We filed Issue [...]

Firebug UI Changes and a new Beta

In case you missed it, we’re asking Firebug users to take a look at Curtis Bartley’s blog post: Improving the Firebug UI – Curtis Bartley’s Blog He’s got a patch to reorder the tab strip and toolbars that we think makes more sense. So take a look, try it out, and post to the thread [...]

Why is this thing on?

This is an all-too-frequent question many Firebug users have. It can be frustrating to look down in the corner and see an orange bug and not know how it got there. Now that the initial giddiness of releasing Firebug 1.3.0 has worn off and we’ve stood back and taken stock, there are a couple of [...]

Firebug 1.3.0 Final Released

As the subject says, Firebug 1.3.0 Final is now up on addons.mozilla.org. Release notes are here. As mentioned previously, this version will not be compatible with Firefox 3.1 (Shiretoko) and up. For that you’ll need a Firebug 1.4 alpha, soon to be dubbed beta available on getfirebug.com’s releases directory. Notes are on the releases page. [...]

Startup quirks with Firebug 1.4a10 and Firefox 3.1b2

I noticed a funny problem with Firebug 1.4a10 and Firefox 3.1b2 yesterday which I’ve since seen reported and verified by other users. John Barton confirmed it in his build but says that the trace-enabled version of 1.4a10X works properly. You can get it here: getfirebug.com/releases/firebug/1.4X. If you’d rather stick with the non-debug version for performance [...]

Firebug in Firefox 3.1b2 and Beyond

I’ve been getting asked about this more and more recently, so I thought I should write something in an attempt to allay the confusion around this. Let me say this first: Firebug 1.2.1 is not compatible with Firefox 3.1. That bothers me, but not half-as-much as it probably bothers you, the person trying to debug [...]

Back to the ‘Bug

I’ve actually been back from a brief 2 week hiatus for a couple of weeks now, trying to get my head back in the swing of things. The pace of Firebug development continues unabated. Honza is busy back-porting some Net panel changes from 1.4 to 1.3. We expect a final release of Firebug 1.3 sometime [...]

FireUnit – the early years

One of our goals for moving forward with Firebug is to build a system to run automated unit tests for it. Currently, Firebug is modified, packaged and then tested by a small (but enthusiastic!) group of developers. When changes are made to the codebase, the area under development might be tested by the developer, but [...]

Building Chromebug

This week was a pretty incredible week for web stuff. The Labs people kicked off their Ubiquity prototype, letting the world get a taste for some of what will be possible through natural language processing and the browser. I also discovered a new feed reading add-on for Firefox called Feedly which does some very cool [...]
